Wasn't that one amazing story?!
So many heroes. I'm wondering how it inspired you and what you thought of all the coverage in the traditional news media.
I share my thoughts on today's front page of DarynKagan.com.

I've been sort of riveted by this story. I spent several years of my childhood in NY and NJ, my husband was born and raised there, and now, as you know, we live just outside of Charlotte, which is where this flight was headed - so from the first moment, our interest was piqued. But as the story progressed it just pulled us in farther. We've talked about how 9/11 must have really changed the attitude of NYers...
I was impressed with the heroic efforts of the pilot, and the incredible response time as well - have you watched the video? The people were so calm and orderly, the first ferry was there within like 2 minutes, it went as though it had all been planned for, like a well oiled machine. I have smiled and smiled at the way everyone reacted - effortlessly and without a second thought.
The bad times seem to bring out the best in people, and this event is such a huge wonderful example of that, and has really reminded me, again, or how intrinsically GOOD people are, despite the stereotypes, reputations, and inaccurate judgments :-D
The first thought I had was horror had struck again. But after the initial news of the "crash" everything went right. When it was learned that all aboard had survived and there weren't even serious injuries, I thanked God for all of the heroes on the Hudson River that saved all of these lives.
Clearly, the pilot, the captain was a hero. So was the entire crew. And the many rescue workers, from the ferry boats, to the NYFD, the NYPD, the Coast Guard and all the others were truly heroes. At a time when we call people heroes that aren't even close to being heroes (sports figures, political people, media people, for example) it is inspirational to know there are still heroes amongst us.
One great story I heard-- from the time the plane hit the Hudson to the time rescue workers were off the helicopters and in the water was only ten minutes! Only ten minutes! Think about that. The helicopter pilots and ground team get the call, the rescue workers are on the helicopter getting dressed and ready, the helicopter is in the air, flys to the west side, goes down to the water level and the rescue workers are in the water saving lives-- in only ten minutes. Inspirational? You bet!
My other thought on this was that this really is a darynkagan.com story. This is not the kind of story the traditional media enjoys because it is inspirational and the news was all good. This is a Daryn Kagan story!
I hate to say it, but it was like the traditional media were hoping for something bad. The traditional media seems to relish bad news. Of course, even the traditional media couldn't help but be inspired by this story. But I had the feeling they were looking for numbers of injured, numbers of killed, the rescue being mishandled and the pilot being incompetent. Instead, of course, everyone did an heroic job and even the traditional media couldn't miss that fact.
Keep up the great inspirational work, Daryn. I love the website.
