So, I heard on the radio this morning that today, April 9th, is "National Name Yourself Day."

I'm not sure who had the extra time on their hands to create that one, but it does make for an interesting and fun topic.

Do you like your name? Would you change it? Do you know anyone who has? Do you have any favorite names?

I always thought Dawn was too plain. As a little girl, I used to write my name on my books as Dawna - however, I have grown to love and appreciate my name that I wouldn't change it for anything.

I love my mom, but why she had to pick Karl as a first name will remain a mystery the rest of my days. I know she named me after an uncle (Italian heritage) and there's no German in either of my family lines. However, I get that question a lot. My dad's first name was Thomas, which I was given as a middle name. I like it, (Tom and Tommy sound friendlier) and might consider using it someday. However I think I'm pretty well committed to using the name with the harsh sounding K for a while yet.

In my mid 20's I got very ill. Very ill. I had no idea what was happening to me and every doctor I went to was stumped by my strange "autoimmune-ish" symptoms. I grew up so outgoing and active and literally found myself at 25 unable to get out of bed.
I spent 2 years desperately seeking a diagnosis and for someone else to tell me what was happening to me. The truth of the matter was that I had to turn inside to begin to discover what was manifesting on the outside. I studied auto-immune diseases and what they did in the body: which was to attack their own systems. Well, let me tell you....that was an ENORMOUS wake up call to me as I realized that I was actually beating myself up on the inside in my life, and no wonder I ended up ill.
With this realization, I started to become aware of my own thought process and its effects on my life...including my body. I turned the inside around and started healing on the outside. It was such an empowering experience to find self-respect and care to those levels, and I am forever grateful for that discovery.
Sooooo......after I felt I had "made it to the other side" so to speak, I wiped the slate clean with a new name. I was born Kathryn. But one day Sahara came to me. And it just made sense....and stuck. I legally changed my name several years ago....and am DELIGHTED with how "Sahara" has turned out.
Lots of love....
:)

as per numerology certain names given at the time of birth are known as eik names and if they r not carried as such thru out the life,it may result in bringing some luck not favouring at the rite time
how much this is true,i m not aware as it is the literature and research and what it has resulted is not known to me as i have not seen any experience of that time and i never thought of it.
in old days the names used to be given by the holy priests of the related religion after some rituals performed and they had certain validity based on thier spiritual experience
now a days peolple r so busy that they search for a solution only when the things r byond thier control and do not follow the religious rituals written in all holy books of all religion
The pronunciation of one's name has some resonance effect and it can turn positive if changed for the betterment as the resonance with the surroundings shall change.
in any case change is always GOOD

Erin, 2009 made me grow up. I had to seek me last year and then correct some of the things. But I know that I took a step forward even though life tried to keep me back.

I am not MAD at 2009! Every year ends in a mixture of emotions for those reflecting upon it. 2009 seems to be one of those years. I have heard people emphatically say “goodbye to 2009”. The year has brought to some great joy and to other great pain…
