An inspiration came to me today as I was driving around the car.
How about we start an ongoing "Thank You" note?
It's pretty simple--someone does something nice, you simply add an entry.
The stranger who pays the toll in in front of you; your husband picks up slack around the house; a friend goes out of her way to make you smile; your dog knows just when to come up and give you a nod.
You get the idea....we'll keep'em short and keep'em going.
I want to say, Thanks! to all the clever and resourceful people who let me know via Twitter and Facebook what I could do for my iPhone that I dropped in water on Saturday. The suggestion: smother it in a bag of dry, uncooked rice. Never had heard of that one, but what do you know? It worked! yay!
Saved me a trip to the Apple store and big $$$ to replace the phone.
:)
I am so grateful to my friend Laura who took a copy of my book to her church to ask them about having me do a book signing because she found the book so inspirational and wants to share it with members of her church. Thank you Laura!
I must give huge buckets of gratitude to my awesome vet. I was struggling with the idea of leaving my beloved 19-year-old cat, Tripod, in the animal hospital for another night of treatment, even though he is too weak to be at home. Dr. Johnson took him home last night, so Pod got it all--great treatment and a loving home! Thank you! Thank you! As you can imagine, it still was a restless night without Pod at the end of the bed, but it was bearable thanks to the angel of Dr. Johnson.
I am so grateful to my friend Jordan Rich of WBZ Radio Boston for writing the foreward to my 2nd book of inspirational poetry. He has an incredibly busy schedule but always asks what he can do to support my journey. Thanks JR!
I am so incredibly grateful to Paulie Collyer who organizes the Hyannis Marathon. I asked him how much a table would cost at the Race Expo to bring my book of poetry (I donate 20% to Spaulding Rehab's Polio Fund), meet the runners and inspire them with my journey from post polio to the Boston Marathon and to bring information about Rotary's End Polio Now Campaign. He email'ed me back and told me I could have the table! That is a true act of kindness.
I'm thankful to my husband who took a job in Washington DC to provide for our family in Cleveland, Ohio. When he's home on the weekends, he goes out of his way to help with my fledgling business, the house and our three kids. It's a one-year contract and we're hopeful that he can find a job in Cleveland come February. But until then, I'm thankful for the precious time we have together. This time apart has made me appreciate him all the more.
I'm also thankful for technology. When my dad traveled when I was little we didn't have any contact with him. Now we can text, call, and e-mail and stay connected. Our daughter got her first pair of glasses today and I was able to send a photo to Daddy on the spot. Very cool.
Tammy--
So glad to have you in the community and jumping right in there. One other great tool for staying in touch: Skype! It's free and really makes you feel like you are with the person you love.
Daryn,
Thanks for letting me know about Skype. Thankfully, my husband accepted a new position in Cleveland this week so we get to see him LIVE all the time now! :) We have a great deal to be thankful for this year!!!
We are thankful for the man who saved Piper from drowning in a drain pipe when he was only weeks old. We are the grateful adoptive family of this 3 plus year old golden/chow mix puppy who keeps us smiling know matter what else is going on, and don't remember what our lives where like without him!
I'm thankful to Delta Airlines for gifting passengers with free wi-fi. First time I'm able to access internet from 35,000 up. Pretty cool. Thanks, Delta!
Since it is (or just was ) Thanksgiving, it's an appropriate time to say thanks to someone. Of course, like many who have posted here, there's more than one person in life to be thankful for. I hope Daryn forgives me for running a bit long here, as these posts were meant to be short, I'm going to thank 3 people, but fortunately they all have the same first name. So I'll start by thanking Jim. My first Jim thank you goes out to my older brother, and although we don't see each other often enough, I know he's always been there and would do anything he could to help if I needed him. My second Jim thank you is for my Step dad. And although he's no longer around, and died way too young, he helped me and my mother get through some difficult times after my dad passed away. He also had to put up with me through those difficult rebellious teenage years, and although it may sound like I'm bragging, I think he did a wonderful job. I'm just sorry I didn't get a chance to thank him before he passed away. And finally my last Jim thank you goes to my friend Jim, who had a huge influence on my life when I was unsure which direction to head in life. His generosity, compassion and kindness towards people had a powerful influence on me and I tried to follow his example. The difference being, I've had to work at, while he was a natural. Thanks guys.
Our large family does not exchange gifts on Christmas...we have decided it is more important and more fun to give to others less fortunate and make memories. On Christmas Eve one year each of us brought a wrapped game we loved as children. 3 clues w…
