I am not MAD at 2009!
Every year ends in a mixture of emotions for those reflecting upon it. 2009 seems to be one of those years. I have heard people emphatically say “goodbye to 2009”. The year has brought to some great joy and to other great pains. The year has seen proposals, weddings and bi…

During these last 3 days I have had the blessed opportunity to watch the power of love in action. My home state of Massachusetts lost a beloved senator and the nation has lost a wonderful statesman. Regardless of your political beliefs, if you watched the events of the past 3 days you could not help but notice the incredible power of love in word, in deed and in action. It is said that God is in the details -- I noticed how one of Maria Shriver's nieces tenderly moved her strands of hair and Mar…

When we arrived home the other day, there was a car parked in our driveway. I recognized it as the neighbor's car. They are getting ready to move after living in Boston for only a year. There is a lot of drama surrounding their lives which I don't need to expound upon. They have been asking a lot of favors from us and want to sell us some of their furniture. When I saw the car in our driveway, I had a visceral reaction and felt violated, taken advantage of and wanted to just 'go off' on them. Fo…

Life is really coming at me fast. So many things are transpiring at one time, it is hard to keep focus on the main thing. Jesus Christ! He is the only reason I am here today and to Him I owe it all. In my efforts to make it happen, I have gotten a little weary in well doing. I untied th…

Why Men and Women don’t understand Each other
When it comes to communication between men and women we have certain differences in communication styles. For example if a woman ask a man a question like ” What do you want for dinner Chinese food or Pizza” and he just answers “pizza”. Later that night the woman might be upset at the guy because he didn’t discuss with her if she wanted pizza or Chinese.
When men ask questions they want answers
When women ask questions they want to start or continu…

This weekend I went to celebrate the birthday of a woman that has become very dear to me. She turned 60 years young. During the beautiful celebration the guest of honor made a statement that resonated with me. She said that after all of the battles, trials and ordeals she has had to face,…

Okay so you think, huh? Has this woman lost her mind? Why is she writing about a chocolate covered Grand Canyon quarter and furthermore what is a chocolate covered Grand Canyon Quarter.God has been sending me signs on this amazing journey. Last Saturday, after a run, I noticed a quarter on the sidewalk. When I picked it up it was slimy and brown but the scent of chocolate let me know right away that God was not sending me poop. I was holding a cup of water which was almost finished so I plopped…

I am so grateful to Laura Varon Brown of the Detroit Free Press for coming and celebrating with me at the First Mother's Day Banquet sponsored by Faith With Heels.
On this day we had some wonderful women of faith who came to empower us with their walks of faith. Each women had a unique but powerful story of triumph over a trying situation.
Laura was so gracious that she wrote a short article about us and we truly appreciate it.
Please read the article below and let women (and men) know about…

I receive hundreds of emails every day, many from people who are soliciting me for money, ideas or something else that they are in need of.
Many of the solicitation emails are from complete strangers and most of those get deleted pretty quickly. We can’t help everyone.
Some time ago, I received a message from a complete stranger and as I read the message, I did not experience the desire to automatically hit delete. In fact, as I read it, something in the back of my mind told me to sit up and p…

Some of us old-timers probably remember when Kasey Kasem would send out his long distance dedications on American Top-40. I think he still does them on his current show – I’m not sure.
They would go something like this (with Kasey reading the letter).
“So and so writes. Dear Kasey, blah blah blah. So Kasey, could you please play xyz for so and so? So and so – here’s your long distance dedication”.
Here is how the letter would go if sent on behalf of some of the people on my mind this morning.…

There is no greater power than the power of Love. When I was first diagnosed with post polio syndrome in December 2006, not only was I faced with the physical challenge of using a brace and a cane and at times a wheelchair for mobility, but I was faced with a choice. Would I choose the path of anger, resentment and self loathing because 'this was happening to me all over again?' or would I choose the path of Love. With love and support from the staff at the International Rehab Center for Polio,…

I was sitting in a doctor’s office waiting room a couple of days ago and was observing some children playing. The children were of mixed gender, race, language and potentially religious background. Here is how their interaction went:
My name is yyy – what’s yours?
My name is zzz – let’s play.
It was as simple as that – authenticity in its purest form. Once they had some context by which they could name each other, that was all that was important to having an authentic relationship.
As…

In a time when people are more concerned and consumed with their daily lives and activities, it is quite easy for us to be unkind to ourselves. I see that my life has been inundated with lots of things, activities, to do's etc., that have not add any value so I have actually forgotten to be kind to me. I have forsaken time with the Lord because I have to this or that and I say I'll do it later. I have not relaxed because I have to go to work, since I have to pay the bills. I have not sat in the…

I was listening to a powerful song today by the group
Monk and Neagle. The song, "The Twenty-First Time", describes how the singer routinely walks by a number of people in welfare lines, sleeping in alleys, etc. and intentionally looks away. Over time he starts to see the same people consistently. It occurs to him one day that perhaps one of these people he is passing on a regular basis is Jesus Christ who is waiting to see if he will stop and help Him and yet he consistently looks away.…

As a child I never imagined my life as it is now. I’m 36. When my mom was 36, she had two daughters, 11 and 8 years old, and was raising them on her own. I remember as I was a precocious 16 year old driving the car saying to her, “I remember when I didn’t drive.” Mom said, “Oh yeah? I remember when you didn’t exist.” I never fully understood the magnitude of life, the power of love and that statement until 2 years ago.
I can remember dreaming about “being grown up” and “having a family” and “ge…

All this Walking has made my FAITH hurt! Just look at these shoes. WHEW!!!
Just like when our feet have traveled lots of miles in high heels and began to hurt, our faith can also get a little wear and tear. Although I know I am walking in faith towards by destiny, my faith hurts a little. I thank God for the vision, provision and the desire to do, but boy do I have a long way to go. In the next few months, I think I'll need track shoes. Undoubtedly, I am and will be so glad that I endured to th…

1 Thess 3:5 ~ For this cause, when I could no longer forbear, I sent to know your faith, lest by some means the tempter have tempted you, and our labour be in vain.
Knowing that the Lord has something great in store for me, this past week, I began to reflect on what it would take to receive the promise(s). Our ministry has been fasting and praying for the last 10 days; seek the Lord for a fresh anointing and more of His spirit. As a corporate body, we turned off our T.V.'s, and radios, stopped…

Acts 14:27 ~ "And when they were come, and had gathered the church together, they rehearsed all that God had done with them, and how he had opened the door of faith unto the Gentiles."
How long has the door been closed?
I believe that it is time for the women of faith to open the door of faith to others who are in need of a faith-infusion. We guard so carefully the testimony within us that we do not even attempt to rehearse all that God has done unless it is within the walls of the church.…

Rather than a fake-friendly question to highlight his ignorance, a sarcastic retort, shouting or silently seething - try alleviating the friction that’s at the core of the conflict. I’m not saying it’s easy. Yet unsettled resentments usually cause two-way sabotage, in the moment and in t…
